How to Match a Dry-Type Transformer Cross-Flow Fan: Five Checks Before You Order

Avoid an incorrect replacement: verify fan dimensions, supply, airflow direction, rotation and control interface before ordering.

A fan is a fit-and-function spare part

For a dry-type transformer, a replacement cross-flow fan must match the existing cooling arrangement—not just the overall length. A close-looking fan with the wrong airflow direction, mounting pattern or supply voltage can reduce cooling performance or create an avoidable installation delay.

Check these five items before requesting a quote

  • Existing fan identification: send the nameplate, model and clear photos of both ends.
  • Mechanical fit: confirm overall length, outlet position, mounting-hole centres and connector location.
  • Electrical supply: verify voltage, frequency, phase, rated current and any capacitor requirement.
  • Airflow and rotation: confirm discharge direction, wheel rotation and whether the fan is installed as an intake or exhaust unit.
  • Control interface: note thermostat, temperature controller, alarm contact and protection requirements.

Order with enough information to avoid rework

Include the transformer make or drawing reference where available, the quantity per transformer, site photos and the intended operating environment. If the original model is discontinued, these details allow a practical cross-reference review instead of a guess based on appearance.

Plan the maintenance window

Inspect wiring terminals, guards, vibration isolators and temperature-control settings during replacement. Before returning the transformer to normal service, confirm rotation, airflow and staged fan operation under the site control logic.

Our team can review the information you have and propose a compatible cross-flow fan option for dry-type transformer cooling.
